about Wendy Foster:
Wendy is the creator and director of mamalates, and the master trainer for all mamalates
certification programs. An internationally-certified Pilates instructor, certified pre- and post-Pilates
specialist, Pilates educator, and EMT, Wendy has been teaching Pilates since 1999 and practicing
yoga for nearly two decades.
Wendy has trained Pilates instructors in Oregon, Idaho and Utah, and is a past conference
presenter at the OHSU Center for Women’s Health. She has also developed a number of specialty
workshops for Pilates professionals including: Pilates and Small Props, Pilates on the Ball, and
Pilates for Skiers.
Having practiced Pilates throughout both of her pregnancies -- the first, which ended with an
unplanned Cesarean in 2004, and the second, a VBAC (vaginal birth after Cesarean) in 2006
-- Wendy drew upon her own healing experience with Pilates to create mamalates. She has since
dedicated her practice to working exclusively with new and expectant mamas, finding joy in helping
them safely reconnect with sometimes unfamiliar bodies during pregnancy and postpartum.
Wendy believes that the first step to physical freedom is developing an awareness of holding
patterns and areas where the body may be “stuck” or misaligned. Feeling connected and strong
helps women to be more grounded and present with their growing families.
In her mamalates classes, private sessions, and DVDs, Wendy integrates a variety of movement
techniques to facilitate the physical and emotional journey of pregnancy and postpartum. Her
teaching style is dynamic, incorporating yoga poses, mind-body centering techniques, breath work
and strength training, all while educating women about anatomy, postpartum recovery, and proper
biomechanic
mamalates Welcomes a New Addition to the Family
mamalates mom + babe DVD lets new moms workout with their babies anytime, anywhere
PORTLAND, OR - December 14, 2009 -- mamalates has long made staying in shape during pregnancy fun. And because babies are such integral part of the mamalates postpartum program, getting back into shape after giving birth has been largely hassle-free. New moms are not only allowed to bring their babies to mamalates classes, they are encouraged to utilize them for strength-training and resistance exercises. That said, getting fit in the weeks and months following baby’s arrival just got much easier.
Wendy Foster, creator of the innovative mamalates prenatal and postpartum Pilates-centered fitness
programs is thrilled to announce the release of mamalates mom +babe -- a new DVD and workout kit
designed to make it simple for new moms to exercise at home while bonding with their babies.
In her much-loved mamalates studio classes, private sessions, and now her new DVD, Foster integrates a variety of movement techniques to facilitate the physical and emotional journey of pregnancy and postpartum. Her teaching style is dynamic, incorporating yoga poses, mind-body centering techniques, breath work, strength training, and a variety of resistance bands and balls to provide a safe, challenging and efficient baby-centric workout.
mamalates combines modified Pilates movements with pelvic floor strengthening exercises, functional
fitness, body+mind centering, and gyrokenesis principles to help new and expectant mothers increase
stability and flexibility. Muscles work together simultaneously, all in proper alignment, while slow, deep and precise movements provide relief for new mom “trouble spots” such as the neck and shoulders.
Says Foster, “I am so honored and excited to share mamalates with women everywhere! mamalates builds physical strength and stability while releasing tension. For expectant and new mamas, I’ve found this is the magic formula for maintaining energy - and a positive outlook - in months before and after baby’s arrival.”
The mamalates mom+babe DVD and kit allows new moms and babies to practice mamalates on their own schedule, in the privacy of their own homes. DVD highlights include:
+ Rehabilitative exercises specifically developed for postpartum women
+ Exercise variety including rotation, extension, standing
+ Resistance band and ball exercises to maximize results
+ Creative ways to safely exercise with baby
+ Instructions for proper breathing and safe positioning (unlike many other postpartum
Pilates programs)
+ Instructions for diastasis self-check and diastasis-friendly movement modifications
+ mamastretch – an 8 minute stretching segment promoting ideal alignment prior to the workout
The mamalates mom+babe kit is designed for moms and babies 6 weeks to 1 year postpartum and pregnant women. It includes a mamalates mom +babe DVD, a small red therapeutic ball, a medium resistance band, and a pelvic floor exercise card -- all neatly packed into a biodegradable reusable bag! The mamalates mom+babe kit is available for purchase through the mamalates web site at www.mamalates.com and retails for $35.
